Robert Thoresen

Robert Thoresen, 61, of Maggie Valley, died Friday, July 16, 2004, at Haywood Regional Medical
Center.He was born on May 1, 1943, in Plainfield, N.J., to the late Thore and Jennie Giddes Thoresen. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Anna
Bolen.He graduated from high school in 1961. After graduation he traveled to Maggie Valley to build homes with his father in the valley and then returned to Florida in the wintertime. He married Linda Niesen in 1970 in Hollywood, Fla. He owned and operated Thoresen’s Garage in Hollywood. In 1978 he and his wife became permanent residents of Maggie Valley. Once he and his family moved to Maggie Valley he operated two clock shops-Maggie Valley Clock Shop and Biltmore Village Clock Shop. He served as an alderman on the Town Council of Maggie Valley. He most recently worked with his daughter Janet designing and making pottery. He and his family attended several Baptist churches in the
area.Bob was a caring person and very generous with his talents. He enjoyed his family most of all and was very proud of his children, grandchild and daughters-in-law. His family expressed that his famous quote was “Real success isn’t money or belongings, real success is your
family!”.He is survived by his wife, Linda Niesen Thoresen; two daughters, Janet Thoresen and Carrie Thoresen, both of Maggie Valley; two sons, Benjamin and his wife, Alona Thoresen, of Hendersonville and Robert and his wife, Martha Thoresen, of Canton; brother, Thore Thoresen Jr. of Hollywood, Fla.; two sisters, Norma Harlow and Charlotte Thoresen, both of North Miami Beach; a very special granddaughter, Angela Thoresen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends.The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday July 19 in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations in Waynesville. Burial
was in Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.Friends gathered from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home to share stories and memories of
Bob.
