Hurricane 2004

Four hurricanes hit Florida.

Frances hit Florida as the second hurricane to hit the state in the 2004 hurricane season. Top winds 100 with 120 gusts. It hit Florida on Saturday September 4. We were right where the eye had hit. Thankfully the hurricane downgraded from a cat 4 to a cat 2. Plus, it fell apart on top of us. If these things did not happen, we would have had more destruction then we did.

HURRICANE JEANNE

hit Florida 3 weeks after Frances. It hit as a category 3 hurricane with winds 115 with gusts of 155. It hit Florida on September 25. Luckily we still have a house. Jeanne damaged our house quite a bit more but we are all alive. More on Jeanne’s page.

We did some driving around and took a few pictures of other places damaged near us by the two hurricanes. You can find them in Other Places.

2005 – Wilma!

Wilma became the first hurricane in history to have a pressure drop so low, she looked like she was thinking of hitting Florida as the strongest hurricane in history… however… she slammed into Mexico instead. She spent 2 and 1/2 days on Mexico which weaken her to a cat 1… and then she started heading our way. She build up strength and surprised everyone when she hit Florida’s West Coast as a CAT 3 hurricane… and went all the way across as a three before finally weakening to a CAT 2 as she left. A lot of people say that Wilma was more powerful then Frances or Jeanne… I just say she was different.

Unlike with Frances and Jeanne, we were not fully prepared for her wrath, like most Floridians. We only had one window boarded up. However, we were VERY LUCKY! We lost no windows, and I have some wonderful footage of what took place as Wilma swept through Florida.
